GURPS: Mysterious Tides
Session 006 - Nilas
From Nilas' Point of View
231016Nilas and his companions, Ragnar the Ranger, Brother Robert D'Nagien of Enibria, his friend Jens Marko and the new friend Carmel of Enibria gather together at the docks by Jen's sloop, the Kittiwake. Elias Sinann, the younger brother of Taber Sinann was overlooking everything for the crew with his ledger as supplies were being gathered and planned for the trip to hunt down some assassins.
It took a few hours for the Laird's men to load up all of the supplies that including food and drink medical supplies as well as a few other needed items for the young group of adventurers to get under way on their mission. Nilas was nervous yet excited as the people of the town took note of the activities. Nilas felt important and that he was actually doing something purposeful and good.
He was glad that their meeting with Master Taber went well. The lord was intimidating and Nilas is still very new to diplomatic issues. The lady Sabeen definitely made an impression on the young Callast, and thoughts of her made him smile and made lord Taber seem less indomitable.
Elias made a nice map for the crew and handed it to Nilas for safe keeping. Elias also warned Nilas and his companions of a place called Merchant's Gut, a nasty harbor and place to find oneself in, and a dangerous reef and rocky area called Wyrm Cove. Jens made sure to make notes of it.
After securing all of the supplies the group decided it would be best to get a good night's rest and get moving early in the morning. Hopes of catching a good wind and having a full day to travel would help them avoid Merchant's Gut and also give Nilas some more time to replenish his powers he used back when fighting the assassin.
As the group prepared to head out, they had double checked things with Elias about their journey. Brother Bob asked Elias about anything that they should keep an eye out for and report. Nilas couldn't resist to ask about Lady Sabeen and her interests. Elias mentioned that she liked old books, grimoires and items of ancient value. Nilas made a mental note to keep his eye out for such things to help gain favor with the Sinanns, but more importantly Lady Sabeen.
Brother Bob retrieved Lady Carmel in the morning and Nilas and his friends set sail on the Kittiwake on what was a wonderful, wind-filled day, perfect for a journey by sea. Nilas praised Calla and enjoyed the wind and sea spray as they made great time leaving Piper's Quay.
It wasn't very long into their journey that Captain Jens Marko spotted a small craft hidden from view by a small rocky island. The companions were hopeful that this could be the craft that they were looking for of the two mysterious hooded figures that rowed out in haste the day before from Piper's Quay. As they got closer, Jens could see a small camp and camp fire on the shore, but no signs of anyone there.
The group decided to investigate and Captain Jens got the Kittiwake close to shore, but had to anchor off a bit due to the treacherous rocks that lined the shore. In the wavy shallows, Nilas and his friends disembarked the craft to investigate. Nilas cursed his luck as he slipped overboard and fell into the water, but was able to get his bearings and swim to shore. Once there, Nilas remembered that he had the map in his belt pouch and pulled it out, securing it out with some rocks to dry.
Ragnar stayed on the boat with Carmel, though he was a little sick and trying to recover from his motion sickness.
Nilas and his friends approached the campsite and carefully checked around the area. There was nothing noteworthy in the boat or around the camp. As they looked around, they noted that the rocky island was pretty much a 100 foot tall rocky mound. Nilas then spotted a rope, tied off to the rocks and going down a blow-hole in the reef. Water would spray up as the waves rocked and crashed with the tide. Pulling on the rope, it was clear that it was secured and attached to something down below. The group would consider their options on this matter, thinking that their quarry may have going into cavern, probably during low-tide.
The group would plan their descent.........
