Session 011

On to the Twilight Grove

The heroes continue their exploration of the dungeon complex beneath the previously explored Sunken Citadel, finding more and more strange plants tended by Goblin and Bugbear gardeners, one of which has a tangled mutant arm made of woody vines. Another thoqqa, or heat worm, is battled as well. 

The group then moves through a dragon shrine with dark and dangerous looking shadows, a ruined library, what appears to be a dirt strewn office, and finally, they discover the entrance to the Twilight Grove where they are ambushed by a group of inept Goblins. Their defense falters, some perish, some surrender, and others flee to the Twilight Grove, calling for the protection of their master.

The group plods across a wide field full of brambles and twig blights until they finally reach their goal, the dark druid, Sernay, his enchanted and plant-like supplicants, and the vampiric Gultihas Tree. A terrific battle is joined. Malachai is shocked and saddened by the sight of his owl friend, Opal, siding with the evil druid. Twig Blights and Goblin servitors attack and harry the party in their efforts to reach the dark duid. 

The Twilight Grove

The last line of defense is two former Human adventurers, now transformed into bark-covered plant like beings. They apparently still retain their abilities and gear and put them to good use. The tree-woman uses magic to defend Sernay the Outcast and the man-tree advances with his heavy armor and shield shattering longsword. 

Sernay the Outcast

After a protracted battle across several different areas of the Grove, the fighting is finally over. Sernay and his giant toad animal companion have fled to unknown corners of the cavern system. The two tree-beings have been vanquished, though not before Talyn’s shield was sundered in half. All of the Twig Blights and Goblins have either been slain or forced to flee. Stephen the cleric sadly brings the injured form of Opal the owl to Malachai, saying that it had attacked him during the battle and he had swatted her away with his staff. Malachai comes to realize that she had been somehow charmed by the dark druid to fight on his side and the two friends reconcile. Some minor injuries have been sustained by the group, but nothing serious. Finally, the group has to decide what to do with the clearly evil and dangerous tree at the center of the Twilight Grove.

Session Notes
