Welcome to Verge

Tales of a Wolf Attack

The company returns back to camp after nightfall to find Sen alone and scared. The boy tells of a wolf attack that happened earlier in the day. One horse was killed in the attack and three others were missing. Esir and Rood had gone off to find them. After some time, the two boys finally return with the horses. Draven uses his divine magic to patch up some wounds on the boys and some of the horses.

The Greedy Goat Herder

The Company decides it has to head into Verge in hopes of finding a guide. The plan is to try to keep a low profile, find a guide, gather some more supplies and then get back out of town as quickly as possible. The majority of the Company will remain outside of town in a nearby camp as well. Everyone agrees that this is the best possible plan.

Following the Foamfire, here not much more than a creek, the Company comes upon a homestead. They approach cautiously and are greeted by some cautious and apparently greedy Traladaran farmers. The farmer tries to sell one of his goats to the Company for 100 gold but they turn him down, instead they do purchase lunch from the stew pot for a mere 1 Royal.

Arriving at Verge

The Company finally makes it to Verge. It is a small mountain community with a wooden palisade wall around the entire village proper, including some small crop fields and large vegetable gardens on the southern end of town. A large manor house and stone church sit prominently on a hill at the north end of town, clearly the Lord's manor. More fields lay in the flat areas surrounding the village, but there are not many flat areas at all. Herds of animals, mostly goats, can be seen on the neighboring hillsides.
Welcome to Verge

The Company makes a camp off the road, about a mile from the village and decide that Griffin, Marcel and Draven will each enter the town and try to find out some information. Draven will head to the church and see what type of information he can get from the Bishop Andropolous. Marcel will poke around to see if he can discern whether any Iron Ring folk are watching for the Company here and Griffin will try to figure out who would make a good guide to lead them into the Black Peaks and get them closer to their goal.

They are greeted at the open gates by a guard that looks to be no more than a local farmer taking a turn at being a man-at-arms. He bids them welcome and gives them a quick overview of the town and some suggestions on where to get food and lodging. The three companions go separate ways, Draven toward the Church and Marcel and Griffin toward the center of town, though both end up at the Jug and Platter Tavern, run by a Hin by the name of Platterman, coincidentally a cousin of Stubbs Platterman from back in Rifllian, which is the reason that Stephan had decided to remain in the camp and not come into town; he knows too many people in Verge to keep a low profile.

Draven is welcomed warmly by the Bishop of Verge, Calvin Andropolous and his two altar boys, Alban and Mikel and invited to enjoy the hospitality of the Church. The Bishop asks Draven if he would be generous enough to deliver a guest sermon at the evening's service. Draven graciously agrees.

At the Jug and Platter, Griffin immediately starts sizing up folks, picking out locals and foreigners and quickly locating a game of Three Dragon Ante to join. Marcel, on the other hand, starts sniffing around for spies and sees one shifty character at the end of the bar that locks eyes with him for a moment then hastily exits the tavern by a back door. The Traladaran mercenary downs his drink and follows.

  1. Curious: what is the origin of the photo for Verge? Was it photoshopped at all?

    1. The village photo was just something I found on the Google. I think I searched for mountain village. I didn't do any photoshopping to it (possibly cropping it, but I don't think so.)

The village MAP I found on the Vaults of Pandius and added some of my own labels.
